Exactly how Terry John ended up in the West Yorkshire town of Wakefield is pretty much lost in the mists of time?. But Wakefield it was.

It was the late 1980?s and Terry?s irrepressible desire to party meant that most nights he would be found in Wakefield?s pubs and party places. And a strong Welsh accent ? on account of coming from Port Talbot, South Wales ? meant that Terry soon became more widely know as Welsh T.

The kind of party places you?d find Terry were the kind of places that you?d also find bands playing. And with the skills he?d honed in the bands he?d been in back in Wales Welsh T was soon well and truly integrated into Wakefield?s vibrant music scene.

But whatever band he was in he was always the leader, so a band of his own, The Welsh T Band, his band, was kind of inevitable!

His adopted Yorkshire home certainly left its mark on him though ? over time his accent has metamorphosed strangely. Hardly a week goes by without someone at some venue says ?Hey you?re a Geordie aren?t you!??

Nope? The clues in the name!

Kevin 'Geetar' Ackroyd
Kevin 'Geetar' Ackroyd :  Lead Guitar Click to go to gallery

I took up guitar in November 1972, a black Beau Luxe Les Paul copy was the first of many axes, bought for 49 quid, a lot of brass back then may I add. Many people must have recognised the guitar; shouts of ?Beau Luxe? rang out every time I played it. Boy was I proud of that plank of crap.

Listening to Free, Led Zep, Black Lace, Stylistics etc the foundation of a love of blues was formed. Mid 1974 a maple neck Telecaster (my first real guitar) found its way into my grubby mits, plugged into the compulsory Marshall, it made the right noises for me, but not for the Concert Secs. in Working Mens clubs around Wakefield. (my home town).

Sod the clubs, pubs and Rock and Roll were my aim. ?Bingo Bastards? and ?that?s my seat? blue rinse twats put me off Working Mens Clubs for ever. Never again would I be the support act to a bingo machine.

Over the years many bands and a love of blues, rock and jazz has brought me to The Welsh T Band. Influenced by the usual guitar toting blues greats and Glen Miller, audiences watching me now see the result. A lunatic, Marshall devotee with a love of chicken vindaloo, a decent comb-over and any plank of wood with Gibson or Fender written on it.

Never one to take anything seriously, I play for enjoyment and a good laugh. Come and watch the band and experience our brand of foot tapping R and B. Keep your distance, I didn't get the nickname ?Goodarse? in the band for nothing. That love of chicken vindaloo can play havoc with my system!

Any Indian restaurants you like and feel we should try, put the name on the the Kevin's Kurry Klub thread on the message board. We need a list of eateries for when we are away from home!

David Hoyle

It was back in the summer of 1973 when, still at school, one of the bands from David Hoyle?s year asked him to join them to play bass. They?d decide that David was their man because he?d had a few piano lessons aged 1. So he must know a bit about music!

Anyway, the following Saturday, a trip to Leeds brought David?s first bass.

On the bus on the way back home that David?s new band mates dropped a bombshell. ?By the way Dave ? we?ve got a gig tonight. And you?re playing!?

A recent change from Rickenbacker guitars led David to be welcomed by Warwickbass.com as a new Warwick bass guitar user, ?The Thumb is a great bass?, says David, ?it just does everything you want from a bass?.

Graham Dickson

Graham has been playing the drums for at least 56 years now.

His shady past includes residencies at some of the North's more dodgy boozers which taught him to duck - flying bottles and ladies under wear mostly. Previous bands include ?The Gangsters Of Soul?, ?The Ford Prefects?, ?The Travelling Bilberries?, ?The Mavericks? and ?Thighs The Limit?.

The highlight of his rock ?n? roll career was when he played at Euro-Disney in Paris a few years ago but how he played dressed as Pluto is a mystery.
